Floor Preparation

Floor preparation is crucial for the success and longevity of any flooring installation or restoration project. Here are some reasons why floor preparation is important:

  1. Ensures Proper Adhesion: Properly prepared floors provide a clean and even surface for adhesives, coatings, or flooring materials to adhere to. This ensures that the flooring material bonds securely to the substrate, preventing issues such as delimitation or peeling.
  2. Improves Finish Quality: Floor preparation helps to eliminate imperfections, such as bumps, dips, or unevenness, that can affect the final appearance of the flooring. A smooth and level surface results in a more professional-looking finish and enhances the overall aesthetics of the space.
  3. Increases Durability: Adequate floor preparation helps to address underlying issues such as cracks, holes, or moisture problems that can compromise the durability of the flooring over time. By addressing these issues upfront, the flooring is less susceptible to damage and wear.
  4. Prevents Future Problems: Proper floor preparation helps to identify and address potential issues that may arise during or after the installation process. By addressing these issues early on, such as moisture mitigation or substrate repairs, it helps to prevent costly and time-consuming problems in the future.
  5. Ensures Safety: Uneven or damaged floors pose safety hazards such as trip and slip hazards. Proper floor preparation helps to mitigate these risks by creating a smooth and level surface that is safe for foot traffic.
  6. Optimizes Flooring Performance: A well-prepared substrate provides the ideal foundation for flooring materials to perform at their best. Whether it’s tile, wooden floor, carpet, or polished concrete, proper floor preparation ensures that the flooring material performs as intended and maintains its integrity over time.

In preparation for the change of use at the large store room spanning 1500 square meters, our task was to remove the old vinyl flooring, including the self-leveling compound and glue using or concrete floor grinding machines. Poor access made the job more challenging, limiting us to the use of lighter concrete floor grinding equipment. Additionally, the new tenants requested a concrete floor finish, which required careful handling to avoid grinding off the top layer of concrete. Despite these challenges, we executed the removal process with precision, ensuring the smooth transition to the desired concrete floor finish while maintaining the integrity of the underlying surface.

To prepare for the installation of a new floor, we were assigned the task of removing 350 square meters of tile adhesive. Due to the location on the second storey of the building, our access was limited to a lift, necessitating the use of a lighter three-phase grinder. Dust control was crucial for this job, so we employed our three-phase dust control system to keep the dust contained. This allowed other trades to work in the area simultaneously, ensuring efficiency and safety throughout the project.

Following a significant flood in the shopping centre, the floors required replacement. Once the tiles were removed, we were tasked with removing the tacky tile adhesive covering 450 square meters of floor space. To expedite the process and maintain efficiency, we utilised one of our larger three-phase concrete floor grinding machines. With this equipment, we were able to complete the tile adhesive removal in just one day, ensuring smooth progress of the overall project and minimising downtime. Our dust control process allowed other trades to work alongside us, facilitating a coordinated and efficient site workflow.
